Who We Are

The Heart Behind Our Mission

The Book Drive Store is a vibrant social enterprise and sustainability arm of the Read to Learn Foundation, reimagining how children across Africa experience reading, learning, and play. We believe books are toys too — tools of joy, imagination, and transformation.

From our Literacy Development Center in Muyenga, Kampala, we design, publish, and distribute eco-friendly relatable storybooks that are inclusive through characters, recycled literacy and numeracy kits, themed weekly and monthly book clubs for schools, children, teens and adults at our center and innovative learning spaces that make reading fun, inclusive, and accessible to every child, everywhere.

Our Vision

To rekindle the magic of learning and expand access to eco-friendly literacy and numeracy development materials for children worldwide.

Our Mission

To ensure equitable access to high quality literacy and numeracy materials alongside innovative learning resources, empowering every child to thrive in their educational journey and realize their full potential

Why We Exist

Closing the Reading Gap, One Child at a Time

Only 4 in 10 children in Uganda attend early childhood education, and 83% of learners cannot read and comprehend an age-appropriate text by age 10. We exist to close this gap by creating affordable, relatable, and inclusive literacy solutions that nurture lifelong learners.

Through partnerships with schools, libraries, and organizations across Uganda, Kenya, and Ghana, and distribution through Longhorn Publishers PLC, our books and materials are reaching thousands of children while inspiring a new generation of African readers, writers, and thinkers.

Our Values

Innovation

We bring creativity and play into learning.

Inclusion

Every child deserves a place in the story.

Community

We believe in growing stronger together.

Sustainability

We support education that builds lasting change.

Our Sustainability Model

We operate with purpose and impact:

20% of profits

Are reinvested into community literacy programmes led by the Read to Learn Foundation.

50% of our production

Is transitioning to solar power and recycled materials, reducing our environmental footprint.

Our inclusive publishing model integrates Braille, sign language, and accessible design to ensure no child is left behind.

Our Promise

Where Stories Create Change

We are more than a bookstore — we are a movement of stories, sustainability, and social change.

Every book sold, every kit produced, and every story written brings us closer to a world where every child can read, learn, and thrive through creativity, culture, and compassion.
